Glaciers

One of the highlights of my recent trip west was the glaciers.I finally had the chance to stand upon the Athabasca Glacier. From a distance the glacier looks as though it is solid ice. It's not. The surface is actually like a giant "slushie". The designated walking area is around an elevation of 2210m, (7 000 feet). The thickness of the ice at this place is around 300m, (1 000 feet). A glacial river, caused by constant melting, runs along the north side of the walking site. The water is extremely cold. The brochure handed out at the end of the trip is very informative and helps make the trip complete. The experience was eye opening.
